In an article for Worship Arts, the magazine of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, Susan writes: “Most church groups enjoy creating short prayers and similar items for use in Sunday worship. By contrast, composing worship songs is usually seen as a specialized activity. Yet anyone with basic music skills can make the process inclusive, such that almost any group can create a short song for worshipers to sing.” The article goes on to show how.

Here are three examples of song creation. Susan keeps copyright for administration purposes but all three can be used free of charge in worship. Commercial users are asked to make a donation to the Methodist Federation for Social Action.

Based on Luke 13:10-17, “With Body Bent” was written by a United Methodist Women’s Retreat in Atlanta, Georgia. “Loved by Jesus, Making Peace” was created by children at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, Atlanta. “Bring Us From Darkness to Light” was composed by United Methodist Women on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
